Lake Superior Agate Inc. and Dan Wiemer Fine Art, LLC proudly showcase the “Agates in Nature Series.” Each of the five limited edition 9” x 9” watercolor litho prints features a different animal indigenous to Minnesota along with one of the finest Lake Superior Agate specimens ever found. Dan Wiemer has captured the wonder and vivid colors of both these beautiful creatures and the highly coveted state Gemstone of Minnesota in their natural setting.

The Ham Agate

A startled chipmunk (Tamias minimus) peers down from limestone slab at an amazing sight. The 10.25-pound agate sits waiting to be discovered in a pile of glacial stones cleared from a farmer’s field. The “Ham Agate” was found by Nina Cox near Ellsworth, Wisconsin, in 1915. She believed until her death in 1983 that what she had found was a petrified ham.
