The Agates in Nature series: The Howard Agate

The Howard Agate

A curious Nuthatch (Sitta carolinensis) checks out a spectacular 4.58-pound agate sitting along the edge of a bulldozed track of land soon to become a gravel pit. Matt Howard was walking with a friend collecting agates new Saginaw, Minnesota, in August of 2002 when he stumbled upon this incredible find.
